CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - Police in Tennessee say a baby who was violently shaken by her father has died and that he has been arrested and charged with criminal homicide.

News outlets cite a Chattanooga police affidavit as saying the 4-week-old girl died at a hospital Monday after 26-year-old Ivan Dunton shook her. Police say Dunton told officers he had shaken her because she wouldn’t stop crying.

Police say a medical emergency call sent officers to a neighborhood where they found the baby receiving CPR.

Police say Dunton originally told officers his daughter fell down stairs while in a car seat, but changed his story when presented with conflicting evidence.

Dunton was also charged with aggravated child abuse. He’s jailed in Hamilton County, and it’s unclear if he has a lawyer who could comment.
