Newborn dies after being found in California dumpster

AZUSA, Calif. (AP) - A newborn girl has died after being found in a Southern California dumpster.

Azusa police Lt. Robert Chivas tells the Los Angeles Times that police were called to the scene behind condominiums Thursday afternoon and found the motionless baby in the trash. She was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Chivas says investigators spoke to the parents, who live nearby, but no arrests have been made.

There’s no immediate word on the cause of the infant’s death.
