PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A Philadelphia police officer has shot and killed a pit bull that attacked after a man told the dog to “sic ’em.”
Authorities say the attack happened after officers responded to a call of shots fired Thursday night.
Police say a man tried to flee from officers at the scene and a struggle ensued. They say the man yelled for his mother, and a pit bull emerged from a home and charged at the officers.
Police say the man instructed the dog to attack the officers, and it tried to bite an officer but instead bit the man on the cheek.
The officer opened fire and killed the dog after it made a second attempt to bite the officer’s face.
The man involved in the struggle was hospitalized for treatment.
