MESA, Ariz. (AP) - Several police officers and sheriff’s deputies escaped life-threatening injury when a driver barreled into them outside a Mesa convenience store.
Maricopa County sheriff’s officials say 37-year-old Carlos Albert Diaz was booked Thursday on multiple charges related to aggravated assault and DUI.
Authorities say he turned into a Circle K parking lot at high speed shortly after 4 a.m., rear-ending a police car and hitting one Mesa police officer and two deputies.

Three deputies and three officers, all in uniform, had been discussing a joint investigation beside their marked vehicles.
The uninjured officers arrested Diaz. They determined he was driving on a suspended license and he acknowledged using illegal drugs.
It was not known if he had an attorney.
The injured officers have been released from the hospital.
