ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) - An Anderson County man and woman have pleaded guilty and were sentenced in the death of the man’s 96-year-old great-grandmother.

WYFF-TV reports 25-year-old Jesse Long, the victim’s great-grandson, pleaded guilty to abuse of a vulnerable adult resulting in serious bodily injury. Forty-four-year-old Veronica Bryant pleaded guilty to abuse of a vulnerable adult resulting in death and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

Evidence shows that the pair lived with the victim for about 18 months in exchange for caring for the wheelchair-bound woman. Prosecutors say they admitted using drugs while they were supposed to be caring for her. Investigators say the woman died from sepsis, from a maggot-filled bedsore.

Bryant was sentenced Tuesday to 30 years for both charges. Long was sentenced to more than three years..
