GASTONIA, N.C. (AP) - Police in North Carolina say two people are charged in the death of a woman whose body was found inside a vehicle submerged in a river.
The Gaston Gazette reports Gaston County Police say 48-year-old James Michael Rick is charged with first-degree murder, and 51-year-old Melinda Kay Robinson is charged with accessory after the fact. Authorities say the two were trying to hide from authorities inside a house near Stanley when they were apprehended on Wednesday.
Capt. Curtis Rosselle said the homeowner could be charged if it’s determined they knowingly hid fugitives.
Police say 61-year-old Joyce Rick was found inside a vehicle submerged in the Catawba River last week.
James Rick is jailed without bond and Robinson is held on a $500,000 bond. It’s not known if they have attorneys.
