JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (AP) - A North Carolina woman accused in a slaying and then fleeing to Alabama has returned to the state to face a judge.

News outlets report Saundra Wagner, who was arrested after a police chase in Alabama, appeared in court in Onslow County on Thursday.

The 47-year-old Wagner is charged with murder in the death of James Pannoni of Hubert. Pannoni’s body was found in his home on April 8 after his daughter in Pennsylvania became concerned because she could not reach him.

Deputies say Pannoni was stabbed to death and that he and Wagner had been in a relationship for several months.

A judge ordered Wagner held without bond and set her next court date for May 23. Online records don’t indicate whether she has an attorney.
