NEW YORK (AP) - New York City police say officers shot a woman who was threatening them with a knife.

The woman was taken to a hospital after the shooting late Friday in Queens. Police say she is in stable condition.

Chief of Patrol Rodney Harrison says two officers spotted a woman acting “erratically” in front of a car wash. He says the woman threw a bottle at the officers and brandished a knife at them.

Harrison says the woman refused the officers’ orders to drop the knife. He says one of the officers shot the woman in the abdomen as she was advancing toward them with the knife in her hand.

Harrison says the woman fled and was apprehended a block away by two backup officers who subdued her with a stun gun.
