MONTICELLO, Miss. (AP) - There have been more shootings in a feud in a remote southwest Mississippi community.
Lawrence County Sheriff Lessie Butler tells WLBT-TV that shots were fired at two houses and two vehicles Thursday in the Oma community. That’s a crossroad with a few dozen houses about 12 miles (19 kilometers) north of the county seat of Monticello.
There were three shootings and a fire in December in Oma, although investigators couldn’t prove arson. At least two shootings came several years earlier.
Butler has long suspected a feud among relatives.
No one’s been injured, but the sheriff says he’s frustrated because residents won’t say who’s involved.
Investigators suspect an assault rifle was used in the Thursday shootings, based on shell casings.
