BRIDGETON, N.J. (AP) - An attorney representing a New Jersey mother charged with murder in the death of her toddler son is pointing to a man she alleges should also be considered a suspect in the case.
NJ.com reports that the comments came as the public defender seeks pretrial release of 25-year-old Nakira Griner.
Prosecutors say Griner initially reported that 23-month-old Daniel Griner Jr. had been abducted Feb. 8, and law enforcement launched a search, but the child’s remains were found next day in defendant’s yard.
Public defender Kimberly Schultz is arguing that prosecutors haven’t been able to prove a cause of death. She also alleges that a man acknowledged to prosecutors a month after the remains were found that he had struck the child on at least four occasions. He was not charged.
