MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont police chief says officers investigated in connection with a fatal shooting were allowed to review dashcam footage prior to being interviewed, against the wishes of state police.
Montpelier Police Chief Anthony Facos said Wednesday that Corporal Chad Bean and Officer Christopher Quesnel were allowed to review the footage on advice of counsel.
Facos says the practice allows officers to be accurate and consistent when being interviewed.
State police Major Daniel Trudeau tells the Times Argus that speaking with an officer who hasn’t reviewed the footage gives better insight into their thoughts prior to a shooting rather than having them recount a video.
State and county prosecutors announced earlier this week that Bean’s actions were justified when he shot 62-year-old Mark Johnson who was armed with a pellet gun.
