COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say a man has been sentenced to 24 years and five months in prison for selling a powerful narcotic to his ex-girlfriend at the University of South Carolina though he knew she wanted to kill herself.

The State newspaper reports 24-year-old Anthony Hunt was sentenced Tuesday for drug deals that resulted in the 19-year-old’s death. Hunt was a former USC student. He pleaded guilty in April to distributing Oxycodone, an opioid pain medication.

U.S. Attorney Ben Garner says Hunt gave the woman instructions on how to kill herself.

DEA agent Adam Roberson previously said the woman had tried to kill herself twice. Roberson said Hunt sold her Xanax before the second attempt and then sold her Oxycodone before her ultimate death.

Hunt told the court he was sorry and that he loved the woman.
