LAS VEGAS (AP) - A Las Vegas man has been convicted of fatally shooting his girlfriend and her teenage daughter in 2013 and critically wounding the woman’s 4-year-old daughter.

Manuel Mata III was found guilty Monday of second-degree murder in the slaying of Maria Flores and first-degree murder in the death of 17-year-old Elizabeth Gomez.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports Flores’ younger daughter, Sophia Trujillo, was critically wounded by a gunshot to the neck.

Mata also was convicted of attempted murder with the use of a deadly weapon and trafficking in a controlled substance.

Prosecutors say Mata shot Flores after she packed suitcases and prepared to end their three-year relationship.

Mata faces the death penalty in a separate phase of his trial, scheduled to begin Tuesday in front of the same jury.
