GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) - A Montana coroner has released the name of a man who was shot and killed by a deputy U.S. marshal when he brandished a gun while officers were trying to serve an arrest warrant on allegations he had violated the terms of his probation.
Petroleum County Coroner Dick Brown on Wednesday said 42-year-old Jason Quincy Niccum was shot Monday afternoon in Great Falls.
Great Falls Police say officers found Niccum sitting in a sport utility vehicle and he was getting out of the vehicle with a handgun when he was shot.
The Great Falls Tribune reports Niccum’s criminal record goes back to 1995 with convictions for forgery, theft and drug possession. His most recent conviction was for a 2013 burglary for entering a residence uninvited while looking for his ex-girlfriend and assaulting the homeowner.
