ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - A bar owner near the University of Georgia has been arrested on charges that he sexually assaulted a woman there.

Athens-Clarke police tell local news outlets they arrested 38-year-old David Ellis Ippisch on Monday. Besides rape, other charges include sexual battery, kidnapping and two counts of battery.

Police say Ippisch assaulted a 21-year-old woman at Hedges on Broad, a bar he owns in downtown Athens, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Investigators say Ippisch is alleged to have pulled a woman into a storage area and assaulted her there. Police say the man grabbed the woman by the neck and forced here to drink something from a bottle.

Ippisch remains jailed without bail Wednesday. It’s unclear if he has a lawyer.

Police say Ippisch owns a second Athens bar.
