STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) - A Mississippi teenager has been charged as an adult following a deadly shooting.

Starkville police on Wednesday told local news outlets they have arrested 16-year-old Aviante Jordan and charged him with murder in the Tuesday death of 23-year-old Laterrence McCarter.

McCarter was found dead in a car that stopped after it hit a parked van in the parking lot of an apartment complex.

Police are charging 30-year-old Lakorian Stewart with conspiracy to commit a crime, saying he was an accessory to the shooting.

Bail is set at $1 million for Jordan and $100,000 for Stewart. It’s unclear if either man has a lawyer to speak for him.

Police haven’t provided any information on what motivated the shooting.
