TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - Democrats and Republicans in New Jersey’s Legislature will be returning the same leaders to top posts when next year’s session begins.
The Democrats who control the Senate and Assembly said Thursday that Senate President Steve Sweeney and Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin were reelected as leaders for the session starting in 2020.
All 80 members of the Assembly were up for election on Tuesday. Unofficial state results show Republicans picked up at least two seats in the Assembly as well as a Senate seat in the lone special Senate election held Tuesday. The Associated Press was unable to call some races because of outstanding mail-in ballots.
