Louisiana sheriff’s deputy arrested as part of probe

FRANKLIN, La. (AP) - A Louisiana sheriff’s deputy is in custody following his arrest as part of an attempted murder investigation.

WAFB-TV reports 20-year-old Treyvon Burrell was arrested Thursday on two counts - being principal to attempted second-degree murder and obstruction of justice.

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Blaise Smith says the arrest was the result of an investigation into an incident in Thibodeaux. Further details were not immediately released.

It was unknown if Burrell has an attorney.

Burrell worked as a corrections deputy at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center since March. Smith says Burrell was terminated following his arrest.
