LAS VEGAS (AP) - Two Las Vegas justices of the peace face hearings and possible suspension in the wake of allegations being considered by a state commission.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that papers filed Friday with the Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline don’t detail the allegations but say Justices of the Peace Amy Chelini and Melanie Andress-Tobiasson pose “a substantial threat of serious harm to the public or administration of justice.”
Lawyers for the judges deny the allegations and said they’ll be contested.
A lawyer for Tobiasson, Bill Terry, says the allegations don’t involve judicial misconduct such as bias or competency but stem from a grievance by court personnel.
Tom Pitaro, Chelini’s attorney, said there’s no allegation that his client doesn’t run “a fair, efficient and just courtroom.”
