The Milwaukee Brewers’ roster for Tuesday night’s National League Wild Card Game does not include two pitchers who once appeared in the playoffs for the Washington Nationals.
Gio Gonzalez and Matt Albers were left off the wild card roster, the Brewers announced Tuesday. Gonzalez pitched 4 2/3 innings and did not allow a run Saturday for the Brewers against the Colorado Rockies.
Albers pitched in the playoffs for the Nationals in 2017, while the lefty starter Gonzalez appeared in the postseason for Washington in 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2017.
Albers had 5.17 ERA in 67 games out of the bullpen this season for the Brewers while Gonzalez was 3-2, 3.50 in 19 games, with 17 starts. A key reliever for the Brewers is lefty Josh Hader, an All-Star in 2018 who played at Old Mill High in Millersville, Maryland.
Outfielders Ryan Braun and Lorenzo Cain are both on the Brewers roster after both dealt with nagging injuries in the closing days of the season. Neither has a hit in their career against Nationals wild card starter Max Scherzer.
