UTICA, N.Y. (AP) - A New York man has rejected a plea deal and pleaded not guilty to charges in connection to the death of his wife.

Forty-seven-year-old Jason D’Avolio, of Rome, is charged with second-degree murder and concealment of a human corpse in connection to the July death of Kerrilee D’Avolio. He pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Oneida County Court. Details of the rejected plea offer were not disclosed.

Prosecutors allege D’Avolio shot his wife in the back of the head and disposed of her body in a dumpster.

Authorities say they found her body in the Oneida County landfill and found a rifle in the Barge Canal in Rome.

D’Avolio says his wife committed suicide and he cleaned the house afterwards.

D’Avolio faces 25 years to life in prison if convicted of second-degree murder.
