HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - A Connecticut man convicted of killing a man in 2003 is asking for a sentence reduction.

Edward White pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter with a firearm in the death of Richard Martinez. White was sentenced to 25 years, suspended after 20 years and five-years of probation.

He wants his sentence reduced by two years, which would make him eligible for parole in April.

Andrew Liskov, White’s lawyer, argues his client has been a model prisoner and will be a contributing member of society upon his release.

The Hartford Courant reports that sentence reduction hearings are not common and require the permission of prosecutors when the sentence exceeds three years.

The judge did not rule on Monday and says she will review the evidence and write a ruling.
