HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut has received a national award for its online program that lets people resolve traffic and criminal infractions without having to go to court.
The Governors Highway Safety Association recently honored the state Judicial Branch with the 2019 Peter K. O’Rourke Special Achievement Award.
The Online Ticket Review Program began in the Stamford-Norwalk Judicial District in February 2018 and was rolled out statewide last December. Nearly 20,500 cases have been processed through the program .
People can either pay their fines or plead not guilty.
Those who plead not guilty can submit a written explanation and upload documents that are reviewed by a prosecutor.
Prosecutors have offered settlement proposals to defendants in 50% of cases, transferred 31% of cases to court and dropped 20% of cases.
