PHOENIX (AP) - Police say a man has been fatally shot in west Phoenix after he allegedly attacked his mother with a knife.
The man has been identified as 47-year-old Hector Miranda.
Police say officers responded to a call of domestic violence at a residence around 4:30 p.m. Monday.
They say the woman suffered a deep laceration to her head and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police say they found Miranda on the street armed with a long knife and what looked like a handgun.
They say Miranda ignored officers’ numerous commands to drop the weapons and he pointed the gun at one officer.
Miranda was shot and taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police say they recovered a large knife and replica handgun.
