COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - President Donald Trump has nominated the U.S. Attorney in South Carolina to be a federal judge.
Sherri Lydon’s nomination to be a federal district judge must be approved by the U.S. Senate.
In April 2018 Trump picked Lydon to be the first woman to be the full-time U.S. Attorney in South Carolina.
Lydon has made fighting public corruption and stopping fraud against the federal government her top goals as U.S. Attorney.
When Lydon previously served as an assistant U.S. Attorney, she was a lead prosecutor in Operation Lost Trust, the corruption probe that resulted in numerous convictions against South Carolina lawmakers and lobbyists.
Lydon also founded the Lydon Law Firm, which has specialized in defending people in white-collar and public corruption cases.
