OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Police in Oklahoma City say a man who threatened officers with a knife has been fatally shot.

Officers responded to reports of trouble on the city’s northwest side about 2 a.m. Sunday when they encountered a knife-wielding man who was pacing back and forth along a street.

Oklahoma City Police Capt. Larry Withrow says the man refused the officers’ orders to drop the knife and rushed toward one of them. Two officers opened fired and mortally wounded the man, who died later at a local hospital.

Withrow says neither of the officers was injured in the incident and that they have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation. They were not identified.

The man’s name and age were not immediately released.
