Washington Nationals manager Dave Martinez stayed in Washington to undergo more precautionary medical testing while the team traveled to St. Louis for a series with the Cardinals starting Monday.

Bench coach Chip Hale will manage Monday’s game in Martinez’s place. It’s unknown when Martinez will rejoin the team.

Martinez experienced chest pains during Sunday’s game and left early to be taken to a local hospital for testing. Mike Rizzo told reporters Monday in St. Louis that the manager underwent a cardiac catheterization.

The Nationals have two weeks left in the regular season and are trying to hold on to the first wild card spot, which would make them the home team for the National League wild card game.
