ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say the president of a South Carolina fishing organization has drowned during a fishing tournament.

Anderson County Deputy Coroner Don McCown said it appears 69-year-old Robert Lee Carroll fell from his boat Saturday on Lake Hartwell. He was reported missing when he failed to return for the weigh in at the tournament.

McCown told the Anderson Independent Mail that Carroll’s body was found Sunday morning and he was not wearing a life jacket.

Carroll was president of the Bass Angler Association of South Carolina.

His family told the newspaper in a statement that Carroll was “an avid fisherman, but was not a good swimmer.”
