HEARTWELL, Neb. (AP) - Traffic safety officials say the crash of a semitrailer and a farm tractor in south-central Nebraska has killed a Hastings man.

The Nebraska State Patrol says the crash happened around 9 p.m. Thursday on Highway 6 in Kearney County, about a mile east of Heartwell.

Investigating troopers say the semi, driven by a 41-year-old man from Cozad, was traveling westbound when it slammed into the back of the tractor, causing it to roll into a ditch. The driver of the tractor, 49-year-old Michael Duca, was taken to a Kearney hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The semi driver was not injured. The patrol continues to investigate.
