ABERDEEN, Wash. (AP) - A police officer shot and killed a man in Aberdeen after police say the man pointed a gun at the officer.

Aberdeen Police Chief Steve Shumate says around noon Monday an officer saw a 41-year-old Aberdeen man walking who had warrants for his arrest.

As the officer approached the man, police say the man told the officer repeatedly that he was not going back to prison before starting to reach for something in his pants and fleeing.

Police say another officer chased the man who then pulled a gun.

Police say the officer ordered the man to drop the gun before shooting him several times.

The man died later at a hospital.

A regional team is investigating.

The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation.
