JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Florida police officers fatally shot a 29-year-old woman who sliced one of them with a butcher knife, authorities said.
Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters told reporters that an officer was sent to the woman’s home Saturday evening in response to a call about a dispute between roommates.
When the officer arrived, Leah Baker attacked him, slicing him on the arm, Waters said.
He retreated and told her to drop the knife, but Baker charged him and he fired several shots, Waters said. An off-duty officer then came to the officer’s assistance and also told Baker to drop the knife and she charged him, leading him to also fire, the sheriff said.
It was unclear how many times Baker was hit and by which officer. She was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Both officers were placed on paid-leave while the shooting is investigated.
