NEW GLOUCESTER, Maine (AP) - A dump truck operator died Wednesday when his rig rolled over and caught fire on Route 100, police said.
The dump truck left the roadway, struck a ditch at the end of a driveway, rolled onto its side, and caught fire late Wednesday morning, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department.
Richard Parent, 67, of Litchfield, was trapped in the cab and passers-by were unable to free him, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department and Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit are investigating.
