PERTH AMBOY, N.J. (AP) - The death of a man found shot and wounded inside a crashed car has been ruled a homicide, authorities said.

Perth Amboy police responded to the single-vehicle wreck around 11:30 p.m. Sunday. They soon discovered the driver, Vidal Carrasquillo-Vasquez, was inside the car and had been shot several times, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

Carrasquillo-Vasquez, 41, of Perth Amboy, was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead there a short time later. A cause of death has not been determined, and it’s not clear where the shooting occurred or what spurred the gunfire.

No other injuries were reported in the crash or the shooting. No arrests have been made.

Authorities declined to discuss the shooting at length, citing the ongoing investigation.
