LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities in northwestern Arizona say a man is hospitalized in critical condition after being shot by police who were trying to arrest him.

The Mohave County Sheriff’s office says 29-year-old Jon Steven Douglas of Lake Havasu City was in an area hospital Friday. He was shot by a Lake Havasu City police officer Thursday night following a struggle with police. The sheriff’s office says Douglas was unarmed.

The sheriff’s office said in a news release that Douglas was inside a business when city police officers who knew he had a felony warrant spotted him. They say as officers moved in to take him into custody Douglas tried to run away and a struggle ensued with one of the officers. One officer then shot Douglas.

Two Lake Havasu City officers involved in the shooting are on routine administrative leave while the sheriff’s office investigates the shooting.
