BECKLEY, W.Va. (AP) - The body of a missing West Virginia teen was found and two people have been charged in connection with the death, police said.
Authorities found the body of Azareyiah Majestic Mitchell, 17, of Oak Hill, on Tuesday and on Wednesday police arrested the last people she was seen with, West Virginia State Police Sgt. Jim Mitchell told news outlets.
Jalesea Dashea Bass, 19. was charged with second-degree murder, concealment of a body and conspiracy, police said. Steven Marvin Lawson, 26, who was Mitchell’s boyfriend, was charged with accessory to murder, concealment of a body and conspiracy.
Mitchell was reported missing in September.
Authorities believe Mitchell was killed on Sept. 28 or 29 in an altercation with Bass and Lawson in an apartment in Summers County, state police Cpl. John Synder said. Lawson and Bass then took the body across state lines to conceal it, Snyder said. He did not say where the body was found, citing the open investigation.
Bass and Lawson were being held at Southern Regional Jail. It wasn’t immediately clear whether either has an attorney.
