A 19-year-old St. Louis man who stole a woman’s car with her 15-month-old son inside was sentenced Thursday to 11 years and two months in prison, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
Elijah Roberts, who was 17 at the time, threatened the woman with a gun and demanded her keys just after she had buckled her two children into car seats. The woman was able to get her infant daughter out but Roberts drove away with the toddler still inside, police said.
The child was found uninjured in an alley shortly after the carjacking.
Roberts led police on a 45-minute chase, during which he rammed two police cars and injured one officer, prosecutors said. He was arrested after the car broke down.
Roberts pleaded guilty in October to carjacking and brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a crime.
