SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah (AP) - A child was seriously injured after a truck crashed into a home in northern Utah, authorities said.
The South Salt Lake Police Department said that the driver of the truck, a man in his 50s, lost control of his vehicle and crossed through a strip mall parking lot before crashing into the home Friday, KUTV-TV reported.
Police did not identify the driver.
Three children were inside when the truck crashed into the house and pushed one of the children underneath it, Sgt. Matthew Oehler said. It took first responders about 20 minutes to get the 10-year-old out from under the truck, he said.
The child was taken to the Primary Children’s Hospital. The other two children were not injured.
“We’re talking about a very busy area, busy time of day, busy streets … it’s astonishing he didn’t strike any other cars any other people,” Oehler said.
An investigation is underway.
