FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) - A former deputy accused of stealing prescription painkillers while responding to a South Carolina home was charged with misconduct in office.
Former Sgt. Christopher Todd Ard, 32, was arrested Monday and booked into the Florence County jail, according to a news release from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
Ard was seen on surveillance video inside the home in February putting a bottle of Oxycodone into his ballistics vest, leaving the residence and returning later, the arrest warrant stated. The bottle reportedly had 40 pills in it before it was taken, and had 29 1/2 pills after it was returned.
Ard has been released on bond, the Morning News reported. It was unclear whether he had an attorney who could comment on his behalf.
At least two other Florence County officers have been accused of misconduct in office over the past two years, the Morning News reported naming former Sheriff Kenney Boone and former Lt. Mark Edward Fuleihan.
