MOCKSVILLE, N.C. (AP) - A North Carolina man has been charged with attempted first-degree murder after his wife was stabbed, a sheriff’s office said.

The Davie County Sheriff’s Office said Shawn William Lee Wilkins, 38, was arrested on Tuesday and placed in the county jail on a $500,000 bond, the Winston-Salem Journal reported Wednesday. It’s not known if Wilkins has an attorney.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies went to a home on N.C. Highway 801 South and found Abigail Wilkins, 22, of Mocksville with a stab wound. The sheriff’s office said Abigail Wilkins was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem to undergo surgery.

The N.C. State Highway Patrol found Shawn Wilkins’ vehicle, a 1991 Lincoln, in Mocksville, and state troopers arrested him, the sheriff’s office said.
