GLASTONBURY, Conn. (AP) - A Connecticut teenager has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run accident that killed an 84-year-old woman who was checking her roadside mailbox.
Police in Glastonbury on Thursday announced the arrest of the 17-year-old girl on charges of negligent homicide with a motor vehicle, evading responsibility and failure to drive right. Officials say she was released on $1,000 bail and ordered to appear in Manchester Superior Court on April 22.
The girl was not named because of her age.
Valda Dienavs was checking her mailbox on Jan. 23 when she was struck by a vehicle, police said. Another motorist called 911 after seeing Dienavs lying in the road. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the 17-year-old girl drove off after the accident. Authorities say they obtained a warrant for her arrest and she turned herself in on Tuesday.
