KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. (AP) - An argument over a basketball foul that started inside a suburban Philadelphia fitness center ended when one man shot and killed the other outside in self-defense, authorities said Friday.

Investigators found the shooter justified in pulling a 9 mm Glock firearm from his backpack as he left the gym and killing Alan Womack, 28. They said Womack had lain in wait with a loaded 9 mm handgun, and fired two shots that hit nearby parked cars as he was struck.

The shooting occurred just before 10 p.m. on Feb. 28, outside an LA Fitness in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. Both men had concealed weapons permits, Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele said.

The shooter had quit the game after the argument and left the gym, only to be followed by Womack. He went back inside to retrieve something, then found Womack waiting outside with a gun, Steele said.

Steele declined to identify the shooter because he was not being charged. He said the shooting was justified because the man tried several times to deescalate the situation.
