UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) - A Maryland official who assaulted and tried to shoot a man has been arrested, authorities said.
Elvis Dennah, an African diaspora and multicultural liaison for Prince George’s County Executive Angela D. Alsobrooks, assaulted a man at a park Wednesday after the man confronted him about being “very aggressive” with people, police said.
After Dennah tried to shoot the man, the pair got into a physical altercation which injured the victim, police added. The victim was not struck by gunfire.
Dennah, who worked in the county executive office since December 2018, was fired after the office learned about the incident Thursday afternoon, The Washington Post reported.
“While we are shocked and saddened to learn about this alleged incident, that could have easily resulted in the loss of life, we remain confident that it will be fairly and justly resolved in the criminal justice system,” Alsobrooks’ spokeswoman, Gina Ford, said.
Dennah, 26, has been charged with attempted first and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and use of a loaded handgun.
The Washington Post could not reach Dennah for comment, and court records did not show an attorney for him.
