RIVIERA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A 17-year-old boy is accused of shooting into a building and critically injuring a nearly 2-year-old boy, police said Thursday night.

The April 23 shooting critically injured Tyrus Jones, who was shot in the head. He remains in a medically-induced coma at a hospital, the Palm Beach Post reported.

The teen was arrested Thursday, Riviera Beach police Chief Nathan Osgood said. He’s charged with attempted homicide, shooting into a building and aggravated assault of a child.

“An individual like this needs to be put away for a long time,” Osgood said of Johnson. “To indiscriminately shoot in broad daylight and just spray around … that says a lot.”

The teen is currently facing juvenile charges, but those could be upgraded, police said. The State Attorney’s Office will ultimately make that decision.

Osgood said the shooting stemmed from unresolved feuds between groups in Riviera Beach and nearby West Palm Beach. He declined during a news conference to elaborated on which groups are involved or what other shootings may be tied to their feud.

In the last two weeks, there have been several unsolved shootings in Riviera Beach that have left three men dead and a 12-year-old boy injured, the newspaper reported.
