The World Health Organization on Tuesday said they have seen several “potentially positive” results with COVID-19 treatments that aim to cut the severity or length of the virus.

Nearly 4.2 million people have contracted the virus globally, 286,669 have died and over 1.4 million have recovered. The world population currently stands at 7.8 billion.

Speaking during a briefing Tuesday, WHO spokesperson Margaret Harris said the United Nations-backed agency has seen “some treatments that seem to be in very early studies limiting the severity or the length of the illness but we do not have anything that can kill or stop the virus.”

“We do have potentially positive data coming out but we need to see more data to be 100% confident that we can say this treatment over that one,” she continued, while stopping short of naming the treatments.

Ms. Harris cautioned, however, that coronaviruses are generally “very tricky viruses” and are “difficult to produce vaccines against.”
