Two former Rhode Island state lawmakers convicted of federal crimes have been released from prison, according to federal records.

Former State Rep. and House Finance Committee chairman Raymond Gallison Jr. has been released to a halfway house according to the Bureau of Prisons website, WPRI-TV reported. A bureau spokesperson said in an email that they could not disclose where Gallison was placed.

The Bristol Democrat was sentenced in June 2017 to more than four years in prison for stealing from a dead man’s estate and stealing from a disabled woman’s trust in his role as an attorney.

Former state Sen. James Doyle has also been released, the station reported.

The Pawtucket Democrat was sentenced to two years in prison in April 2019 on bank fraud charges.

It is unclear if the coronavirus pandemic played a role in either of their releases. A prisons spokesperson declined to say why they were freed.

Telephone messages seeking comment were left with attorneys for both men.
