OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A 30-year-old man died after jumping from a highway overpass during an attempted arrest, Oklahoma City police said Tuesday.

Police responded to the scene of an accident at Interstate 40 and Meridian Avenue about 1:30 a.m. Monday and came into contact with a woman and a man later identified as Zachary Lambert, said police Capt. Larry Withrow.

Withrow said Sgt. Jeffrey Davis detained the female and placed her in a patrol car. When Davis placed a handcuff on Lambert, the man “began resisting and jumped over the side of the side of the bridge, falling to Meridian Avenue,” Withrow said.

Lambert was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, Withrow said.
