PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A Rhode Island man who intentionally struck a pedestrian with his vehicle last weekend during an argument has been charged with murder, police said.
Israel Gonzalez, 48, of Providence, is being held without bail after an initial court appearance Monday. He did not enter a plea, which is standard for district court, and was referred to the public defender’s office.
The pedestrian, identified by police Tuesday as Eduardo Perez Caban, 40, of Providence, was struck on Sunday afternoon and died at the hospital on Monday, according to Providence police Maj. David Lapatin.
Gonzalez and Caban had an argument earlier Sunday, Lapatin said. The men met again later in the day and at that point Gonzalez struck Caban with the vehicle he was driving, Lapatin said.
“It was certainly done with intent,” he said.
