ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) - A man who police said choked and killed a friend’s daughter said he snapped after she wouldn’t stop crying and begging him to take her home after a night of drinking, a prosecutor said.
Kenneth Henry Eastwood, 68, appeared in court via video Thursday, asking for bond on the murder charge against him in Orangeburg County in December, The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg reported.
A judge denied bond, but said Eastwood can ask for another hearing in six months.
Cara Hodges came to Eutawville to visit her father when she went drinking with Eastwood, prosecutor Catherine Mubarak said.
Both of them got drunk and Eastwood took her back to his home, Mubarak said.
Hodges begged Eastwood to take her back to North Carolina, then woke him up an hour after he fell asleep to beg him again, Mubarak said.
Eastwood said he snapped, choking Hodges with an electrical cord, putting her body in his trunk and dumping it in the woods, Murbarak said. Confessions, she said, were made to investigators and Eastwood’s co-worker at a grocery store.
Eastwood’s lawyer said they have no explanation for what happened that night, but he plans to plead guilty.
The only conviction on Eastwood’s record is for driving under the influence.
