MIDLAND, Mich. (AP) - A group dedicated to promoting and preserving Michigan history is seeking financial help for Midland-area organizations whose collections were badly damaged by floods.
About 2 feet of water soaked the Doan History Center, where most of the Midland County Historical Society archives are stored, the Historical Society of Michigan said.
There was major damage at the Sanford Centennial Museum complex, which has about a dozen buildings. Two dams on the Tittabawassee River failed on May 19.
The Midland County Historical Society and the Sanford Centennial Museum “are in dire need,” said Larry Wagenaar, executive director of the state group.
The Historical Society of Michigan is urging people to visit a GoFundMe page, which seeks to raise at least $10,000.
The organization publishes Michigan History and Chronicle magazines, holds conferences and supports local history groups.
