SPARKS, Nev. (AP) - Authorities say a person encountered by police following a report of a suspicious person with a weapon is dead following a shooting in Sparks.

Police didn’t immediately release details on circumstances of the shooting that occurred near motel Monday night but said no officers were injured and there was no threat to the public.

The Reno Police Department is investigating the incident.



Meanwhile, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating another incident also involving Sparks police.

Deputies said a person considered a suspect fled from Sparks police during an attempted traffic stop and ultimately was stopped on eastbound Interstate 80 east of Sparks early Tuesday morning.

The person described as a suspect was taken to a hospital for treatment.

No additional information was immediately available on circumstances of the incident or the wounded person’s injuries.
